Obeying God's Will

When someone accepts God's gift of salvation, it is said that he is "reborn." A man is born the first time in the flesh secularly, and the "rebirth" refers to his spirit being born. A “born again” Christian gains a new spiritual conscience that results in living a life that suppresses sin and obeys God's Commandments. The earthly reality is that every man's drives to gratify needs are too great to overcome every temptation to sin after being reborn Since no man is capable of living to such a high standard, someone's soul can have eternal life with God only by His grace to give salvation. No man is ever “deserving” of salvation, that is, eternal life cannot be earned by good works in this life because no man can live a sinless life. But being “born in the spirit” teaches how to strive to obtain salvation from God which changes a man's heart and soul.

Direct communication with God by prayer is the basis of a relationship with Him. Jesus teaches how man can communicate directly with God, either out loud or silently, through prayer by suggesting the Lord's Prayer as the model, in both the Gospels of Luke and Matthew. By praying to God, man can demonstrate his humility, submission, and worship of God, can confess the sins he has committed (thus recognizing what they are), can ask forgiveness for the sins that only God can give, and can seek the guidance of God to avoid sin in the future.

Christianity implies more than just a spiritual interpretation of the purpose and meaning of secular life... it calls for changing it. It turns out that the drives to fulfill secular needs, when excessive, can lead us to temptation and sin. Choosing Christianity demands that man minimize internal egocentric thoughts and actions and maximize outward thoughts and actions toward God and other people. God's Will is for Christians to use both spiritual and secular energy to obey the two great Commandments. While seeking to accumulate wealth to satisfy our secular needs is of no interest to God, giving away accumulated wealth is a form of worship consistent with traditional Biblical belief in sacrifice. Christians should be willing to leave their "comfort zone" of wealth and give what God wants.

The alternative to ignoring God's offer for spiritual salvation is expectedly spiritual death. The atheist, who believes no God exists and that there is no life after death, is, of course, correct. The atheist, by definition, does not have the chance to be with God eternally. According to Jesus, all the thoughts and actions from the time of "rebirth" to the end of secular life will be reviewed by God, and God will judge if the spiritual birth was genuine. A genuine spiritual birth means the Christian recognized and obeyed God's Commandments with the full strength of his mind, body, and soul for the rest of his life. If a man never changed as a result of the birth of a Christian spirit, then Christianity says that man cannot expect to go to Heaven with God. Jesus explains that man's soul will not just cease to exist if Heaven is denied, but that his soul will be sent to Hell eternally. Whether or not Hell is real in some way or just a separation from God, Jesus is expressing God's desire that all men enter Heaven rather than suffer the alternative.
